What is Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the science of human behavior. Over the past 40 years, thousands of published research studies have documented the effectiveness of applied behavior analysis. Applied behavior analysis is based on the idea that by manipulating stimuli surrounding a behavior, that behavior can be shaped and controlled.

ABA therapists teach children with developmental delays through intensive one-on-one therapy sessions. Treatment is based heavily on functional assessment, data, and family input. ABA therapists use reinforcements and consequences during therapy sessions to slowly shape behavior. The same principles are also used to reduce negative behavior.
