What is Actinic keratosis

Actinic keratosis is precancerous skin growths on sun-exposed areas. Years of sunlight exposure damages skin and causes it to grow abnormally. Symptoms of Actinic keratosis may include rough, scaly, or crusted patches on sun-exposed areas.

Testing for Actinic keratosis will include taking a biopsy specimen to look for cancer. Treatment options for Actinic keratosis may include surgical removal of growth, cryosurgery or chemical peeling. To help reduce your chances of getting actinic keratoses avoid sun exposure, wear long sleeves and use sun screen.
